You are visiting the village of Saint-Hilaire
in the 1890s. You can walk around the village, meet various
local people, and enter the village inn. When you are in
the inn you can help the cook prepare a meal, and you can
explore the inn, upstairs as well as downstairs, and go
into some of the inn’s rooms.
You are invisible on the screen. Imagine
that you are standing in the middle of the screen. You can
turn around, and walk forwards or backwards. To do this
you use the direction (arrow) keys on your computer’s
keyboard:
Move forward; UP arrow key
Move backward: DOWN arrow key
Move to the right: RIGHT arrow key
Move to the left: LEFT arrow key
To make the characters (people) speak, do
a left-mouse click. Sometimes they will also tell you what
to do next.
In the inn’s kitchen you are asked
to help cook a chicken. To do this you have to pick up or
select various objects. To do this:
Make a left-mouse click on the object. (If
object doesn’t respond, try getting closer to it.)
The object will then seem to hang in the air
To move the object, use the direction (arrow) keys, just
as you do to walk around. The object will move with you.
To deposit the object you must click on the target place.
In some places a character will ask you
if you want to see an information page and YES and NO buttons
will appear on the screen. Click YES to see the page, or
NO to continue with the game. To close an information page,
click with the mouse on the X button on the top right side
of the screen. This takes you straight back to the game.
If you want to skip through something a
character is telling you, do a left-mouse click.
There is always an Instruction button in
the top left corner of the screen. It looks like a small
book. Click on the book to open it. You will see “Instructions”
– click on this. To leave the game at any time, click
instead on “Quit”. It takes you out of the game.
